I found my old KZ!!

Like many people, there is that one thing I sold in the past that I always kicked myself for. Mine is a '78 KZ1000. I was the second owner, bought the bike in near perfect condition for less than a thousand bucks! Had a huge vetter fairing, huge seat, the usual crap. Toecutter (Parker) donated many of his KZ goodies off his favorite bike to make mine better. Clubmans, jet kit, Kerker 4-1, filter pods, ignition, etc, removed the blinkers, rear fender, grab rail, and anything else I didnt like. Made a killer cafe bike, wasted some "fast" H.D.'s with it. Looked like the bike above, but better! The guy I sold it to moved to Canada right after he bought it, and I figured I would never see it again. That was 6 or 7 years ago.....Fast forward to the other day- dumb luck led to me finding out the current owners have moved back to the area!! THEY STILL HAVE IT!! AND THEY ARE MY NEIGHBORS!!! HOLY SHIT!! So I gave the guy's wife my contact info, now Im sweatin' cause I haven't heard back! IT WILL BE MINE AGAIN, RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! Stay Tuned

Classic

'34 Ford

 This is my Grandfathers' '34 Ford he recently finished up. ALL ORIGINAL STEEL!! He has had this car since at least the 60's maybe earlier. My Mom and her sisters used to ride in the rumble seat when they were kids, and she's 55 now. He stashed this car away in his shop, where it had been sitting for roughly 40 years! He created his own barn find. He did EVERYTHING himself in the resto process, paint, engine, upholstery, all of it! Ever since I can remember it sat quietly in the corner, carefully placed for a later date. I think he even painted it the original color. Im so stoked he didn't get all billet crazy, or decide it needed a teal and pink stripe, just kept it true to how it rolled off the

showroom floor. The man has skills, and a shit-load of patience to wait so long, not sell it cause he needed money etc. Congrats Gramps! Good Job.

Old Econo

This thing hauled ass for an old econoline, but it had to go. Never felt like it was mine? Bad juju, mirrors would fly off at speed (like 3 times) had a random cracked piece of shit wheel that leaked air as soon as i got home, random hardware hung up the float first time I drove it, overheated (of course) finally fixed after trying every trick known to man and old econo freaks,...hope its life in San Diego is going better. The guy that bought it was super nice and had a killer knuck project goin on. Good Luck Irwin!

    Been going back and forth with myself about jockey shift or regular hand clutch set up. I already had this mousetrap layin around just in case, so I think Im gonna use it. Pretty cool booster, I hear they work great if set-up properly....

Snuck in some work on Superbowl Sunday

Got the Linkert mounted up. Was an easy rebuild so far, but Im not gonna count on it being perfect just yet. Still gotta set it to factory settings, and the old main nozzle WAS actually in there. I figured if it aint broke don't fix it and left it where its been for 50+ years. I have a feeling that might bite me, we'll see. Air passes through it just fine.

 This is the original air cleaner set-up. Not sure if I dig it that much. Might need some mods? It is one of the few remaining pieces off the original bike I started with.

Miller headlight. I have had this laying around for a few years, might use it. Also have a sweet Aris I might use instead?

Olympic Peninsula

 Sorry for the absence, took a little trip to the west side of the state. Got lucky and it was sunny, RARE for this time of year over there! People were riding motorcycles everywhere. Fuckers. Checked out Port Angeles, Hurricane Ridge, The Hoh rain forest, and Kalaloch among other things. HUGE trees, some are world record holders. Washington State is the shit, we have rain forests to deserts with everything in between. The missing part for the linkert showed up in my absence, stoked to get that buttoned up and bolted on!

Linkert Rebuild

Finally got to the carb. This thing was so crusty, I can't believe how well its turning out. Got it done except I went to stick the float bowl on and realized theres no "main nozzle"! Really weird cause I never took one out of it....but its supposed to be there. Gotta order one, good thing this stuff is available. The black magic of setting the float up really isnt that big a deal, easy rebuild once you know what everything is. These carbs are cool cause you can adjust them with your fingers (not a screwdriver) and they adjust in small increments "clicking" when they do so. I hate counting rotations on a small screwdriver and loosing track, then having to start over!

Roller

Wasn't joking when I said it would be a roller soon. I'm torn between these two tanks, the Wassell is borrowed just to see if I like it. I do. A lot. Thinking high pipes? Any opinions on tank selection?

The beginning of version 4.

Tore the front end apart again to make sure its right. Hate fork parts. Running a 2"under FL front end and actually found the spacers I made that have been missing for 3 years! Should be back together and in roller form shortly. Stay tuned...

Seat Progression

Got some time to work on the seat. Tore apart what I had goin and started over. Got cocky and decided some pleats would look good.....Remembered some how-to article from Hotrod or some other mag, and while I was at the local fabric store found the perfect foam for the job. Finally getting the hang of this sewing machine, its actually fun to fix and learn how it works-very simple. I got close to finishing, but the side skirt is hard to get just right. Maybe 1 more re-do will get it.

Hey it actually works! The 1924 Singer kicks much ass at sewing leather. I had to re-teach myself how to sew, but I should be able to whip up a new seat cover with the quickness. Felt weird cutting into the sleazy biker jacket for these test strips. Im going to try making the cover using a skanky old leather biker jacket I have laying around. When I cut into it I thought I heard Steve Perry crying in the distance....

This arrived in mail today. Now I have to figure out the pattern and sew the leather cover. Stoked to try the "new" machine!

Singer

Scored a killer old Singer industrial machine for sewing up leather. Seat foam on its way, leather sitting in shop. This machine was made in 1924, has a leather drive belt, and still operates smoothly. I can still find parts for this thing, Rad!

Master

This seat came on my Pan. Apparently its an old Bates? Check out the perfect patina!! Im gonna run it just like this. Im kidding. I do like the seat pan shape, but the foam has got to go. West Eagle sells seat pan foam for this purpose, and I also have a huge buddy seat that was on my shovel I might sacrifice. We'll see. I dont have the frame yet, so I'll finish what I can while I wait. Tore the old foam and cig butts off now its ready for paint, foam and some leather. I don't have much left of the original bike I started with, so Im stoked to use this seat that rode on the old drop seat frame.

Tandoori Surprise

Whatever, I know its a food post. Deal with it. Made a run to Seattle to grab the new iMac that Iam currently typing on. Had to get a new set up for design purposes, and the antiquated laptop I have been using seized up at highway speed last night. Forgot my camera, otherwise I would have more interesting things to look at. If you are into Indian food and happen to be in the Emerald City, go to Cedars in the U district. 50th and something, by Safeway right off the ave. The above meal is the Tandoori Surprise, basically the meat sampler super plate. Perfect every time, I dont even know what else they have on the menu, I dont bother. Amazingly there is no "surprise" hours later after eating this!? Dont fret, there will be much chopper related shit coming in the future.....
